Pumpkins - don’t bin it, recycle it!

Graphic showing two carved Halloween pumpkins, one stacked on top of the other and illuminated from within. Beside the pumpkins is a grey food waste caddy. White text reads: “Pumpkins - carved it? cooked it? caddy it!” The Arun District Council logo appears in the top-right corner. The image encourages residents to recycle unwanted pumpkins using their food waste caddy. It's a simple way to reduce waste and lower your environmental impact.

Whether it's a carved, spooky masterpiece or a delicious pumpkin soup, once Halloween is over, don't forget to use your food waste caddy for the leftovers.

Halloween can create a lot of avoidable waste. Love Food Hate Waste estimates that 12.8 million pumpkins bought for decorations, are likely to be left uneaten.

We can all change that - simply chop up any pumpkin leftovers and add them to your food waste caddy, just as you would with any other food scraps.

Got a large pumpkin? No problem

Whole pumpkins can be left on top of your kerbside food waste caddy for collection. Any additional pumpkins should be placed whole in a carrier bag and left on top of the caddy on your scheduled collection day but please do not place any other food waste in this bag. Pumpkin collections will be available for up to two weeks from the designated collection start date.

By recycling your pumpkin, you'll help turn food waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertiliser, rather than sending it to landfill.

Have a happy Halloween 2026!
