Redevelopment enters new phase in structural and roofing work at Alexandra Theatre
Progress of the redevelopment of the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis continues with the successful completion of the reinforced concrete (RC) frame marking the transition into a new phase of construction.
The project, led by Neilcott Construction Ltd on behalf of Arun District Council, remains on programme and continues to be managed safely and efficiently through regular inspections.
Recent progress highlights:
- RC frame completed and site cleared - all reinforced concrete frame works have now been completed. This structural milestone marks a significant point in the project, enabling the team to shift focus to roof, façade and internal fit-out elements. Following completion, the site was cleaned and reorganised in preparation for the next stages
- steel framing system (SFS) underway - installation of the steel framing system has now commenced. These lightweight structural components will help form the external envelope and shape the new building's façade
- internal blockwork construction started - internal blockwork walls are now being constructed, including key spaces such as the new kitchen area and the passenger lift frontage
- internal works progressing - a range of internal building works are continuing across the site, supporting services, layout preparation and access for future trades
What's next:
- roof works begin - timber overlay works to the main roof have now commenced. This is followed by works to the flat roof sections of the west and north extensions, as well as the pitched roof areas of the original theatre building. These activities will ensure the building becomes weatherproof ahead of internal fit-out
- continued SFS and blockwork - steel framing and blockwork will continue throughout December, helping define spaces internally and shaping the future form of the building externally
Maintaining focus on safety and delivery
With winter now underway, the site continues to be managed to a high standard, with health and safety procedures and programme coordination remaining a top priority. All construction activity is progressing in line with schedule, and the project remains on track as it heads into the end of the year.
