Restored heritage features set to be re-installed above The Arcade
Arun District Council is pleased to confirm that following the completion of essential repair and restoration work, the historic clock and stained glass are set to be re-installed above The Arcade in Bognor Regis.
The re-installation is scheduled to take place on the morning of Monday 23March and will be carried out by our contractor, Falcon Homes, who also facilitated the removal, restoration and repair works of both the clock and stained glass earlier in the year. The repair and restoration of the clock and stained glass were kindly supported through match funding from the Foulerton Charitable Trust, who help support the preservation and protection of heritage assets. In addition, Ridge generously waived their professional fees as part of their social value commitment to the project, helping to ensure this much-loved feature could be carefully restored and returned to its rightful place.
The completion of this work marks another step forward in the council's plans for the rejuvenation of The Arcade, after planning permission was granted earlier this year. A key feature of the wider proposals for The Arcade is a strong focus on respecting and enhancing the historic character of the building. The repair and restoration of these key heritage assets form a significant part of this, and by retaining these original features the building's heritage can be preserved whilst being sensitively adapting it to meet future needs.
The re-installation has been scheduled to ensure minimum disruption to residents and businesses in the town centre.
