Station Road set for makeover

Station Road will soon be transformed as the Bognor Regis town centre rejuvenation work continues, linking London Road precinct with Station Square.

The improvements will create a safer, more pedestrian-friendly route from the railway station through the town centre towards the seafront, using high quality materials.

Work will soon get underway on resurfacing the pavements and the roadway, and to make road crossing points safer and slow traffic down.

Seats and a tree will be installed at the corner of London Road and Station Road. Businesses will be able to remain open whilst the work takes place.

It is planned that the improvements will be complete before the summer school break, but if it is not finished by then, the contractors will return after the school holidays to complete any outstanding work.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, said: “It is great that when the work is complete there will be a seamless link between previous improvements at Station Square and the London Road precinct.

“The enhancements will provide a safer and more pleasant experience for pedestrians as well as lifting this area of the town.”

Toyubur Rahman, Bognor Regis Town Centre Manager, said: “These improvements are good news for businesses at this end of the town as it should encourage visitors to the town centre to venture beyond the precinct.

“I hope that the improvements will have the same effect on local businesses as we have seen in the precinct and around Station Square where many businesses have invested in upgrades or refits.”
