Stop Food Waste Day – 29 April 2026
Food waste is a major contributor to climate change, and reducing it is one of the simplest ways we can all make a difference. Stop Food Waste Day is a useful reminder to think about what we buy, cook and throw away.
Here in Arun, it's now easier than ever to take action with the recent introduction of food waste collections for most households (all properties to be included soon), helping residents recycle items such as peelings, eggshells and tea bags instead of sending them to landfill.

Lots of people have said that since the new scheme was introduced, they've started to really think about the amount of food they throw away.
Here are a few ideas to help reduce food waste:
- plan meals and shopping carefully to avoid buying more than you need
- store food correctly so it lasts longer
- grow your own food - even small amounts like herbs or salad leaves can reduce waste
- using leftovers creatively to make new meals
Together, small actions can make a big impact.
