Supporting ‘Fly Tipping’ fortnight – working together to tackle fly-tipping
We are proud to support Fly-Tipping Fortnight 2026, from 12 to 25 October, a national campaign led by Keep Britain Tidy, as we want to protect the places we love.
Every year, in the UK, over a million fly-tipping incidents blight our streets, parks and local spaces, costing tax-payers millions of pounds that could be better spent on vital public services like schools, libraries, parks and social care.
A big part of the problem comes from rogue 'white van' operators offering cheap rubbish removal deals on social media and online. These unlicensed traders take your money and then dump your waste illegally in a nearby street or lay-by. So what may seem like a bargain is actually a #rubbishdeal
Are you hiring someone to clear rubbish?
Here are three simple steps to avoid inviting a criminal to your home:
- ask for a waste carrier registration number
- check this number on the Environment Agency's public register or call 0300 065 3000
- prior to going ahead, check you'll get a receipt
Protect yourself. Protect your community. Protect your local public services.
If your waste ends up being fly-tipped, you could face a fine - even if someone else dumped it. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
We're encouraging residents to help protect the places we care about by disposing of waste responsibly, reporting incidents, and working together to keep Arun clean and safe for all.
