Town celebrates official launch of new wayfinding scheme

Littlehampton celebrates the official launch of new signage scheme Arun District Council marked the completion of Littlehampton's new town‑wide wayfinding scheme with an official launch on Friday 27 March.

The launch celebrated the full installation of all 45 wayfinding elements developed through a year‑long project. The wayfinding elements bring together directional information, heritage interpretation, the work of local artists, and three 'Discover Littlehampton' trails created by young people.

Guests attending the launch included councillors from Arun District Council and Littlehampton Town Council, who supported various elements of the scheme, representatives from Littlehampton Museum, who provided historical content and imagery, and young people from The Littlehampton Academy who shaped the three Discover Littlehampton trails as part of Artswork's Young Cultural Changemakers programme.

The scheme was funded through Arun District Council's allocation from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), Littlehampton Town Council and Artswork. It is designed to strengthen connections between the town centre, seafront and riverside, using durable, marine‑grade materials and repurposed existing infrastructure. QR codes at each totem link visitors to live online maps, supporting wayfinding throughout the town.

Councillor Roger Nash, Chair of the Economy Committee at Arun District Council, said:

“Delivering this scheme from its early conception to full installation within just a year is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.

"The project has been shaped by genuine collaboration - from the museum team and local artists to the young people who created the 'Discover Littlehampton' trails. It has been wonderful to see so many partners working together, each contributing something unique.

"The result is a scheme that not only helps people navigate the town but also celebrates the creativity, history and community spirit that make Littlehampton such a special place.”
