World Wetlands Day – 2 February 2026
Healthy wetlands play an essential role in our environment - they support many different plants and animals, help us adapt to climate change, provide clean water, and benefit local communities. But wetlands are disappearing fast. Globally, they are being lost three times faster than forests and around 90% have been damaged since the 1700s.
Arun District Council is committed to protecting and improving our natural spaces, including the wetlands found across our district. Our parks, nature areas and reserves provide important habitats for many wetland species and offer peaceful places for residents and visitors to enjoy.
As it's World Wetlands Day today, let this be a reminder to get out and enjoy the wonderful wetland habitats we have here in Arun. Several of our parks contain rich wetland habitats that support wildlife all year round, including:
- Brookfield Park
- Mewsbrook Park
- Bersted Brooks

Within the district we are also fortunate to have the Arundel Wetland Centre, offering immersive wetland experiences, wildlife encounters, boat safaris and family activities. It's a wonderful place to learn about the importance of wetlands and the wildlife they support.
