West Sussex County Council Elections


West Sussex County Council is currently made up of 71 members elected to represent their local communities. You can learn more on the West Sussex County Council homepage. In order to vote in elections, you need to be registered. The next West Sussex County Council elections will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021, information on these elections will be available from early 2021. 


West Sussex County Council Election 2017

The most recent West Sussex County Council Elections took place on 4 May 2017 working to new electoral arrangements.  The number of councillors reduced to 70 and there were some changes to the boundaries of existing electoral divisions.  You can find out more about this electoral review on the Local Government Boundary Commission for England’s West Sussex page

There were elections for all 70 seats.  The seven District & Borough Councils in the County arranged elections for the electoral divisions within their area with Tony Kershaw, the County Returning Officer coordinating arrangements across West Sussex.

Within the Arun District, were are 13 electoral divisions:

  • Angmering & Findon
  • Arundel & Courtwick
  • Bersted
  • Bognor Regis East
  • Bognor Regis West & Aldwick
  • East Preston & Ferring
  • Felpham
  • Fontwell
  • Littlehampton East
  • Littlehampton Town
  • Middleton
  • Nyetimber
  • Rustington

One county councillor was elected to represent each of these electoral divisions.

If you are already registered, you don’t need to re-register.  You will receive a poll card confirming the details of your voting arrangements between 27 March and 3 April 2017.

If you have a current postal vote or apply for a postal vote before 4 April 2017 ….

  • and you will be overseas, then your pack will be issued on 11 April 2017
  • and you live in the UK, then your pack will be issued on 19 April 2017
