Littlehampton seafront has been transformed into a vibrant, inclusive space. The Lion's Den project has revitalised the area with a mix of modern facilities, family-friendly attractions, and sustainable design. 

Arun District Council contributed £30,000 of CIL funding towards the seafront improvements which helped deliver inclusive play opportunities.

This included a new wheelchair-accessible swing which has been installed and enhancements to the existing sandpit for everyone to enjoy.

The swing sits on new rubber safety surfacing, with additional rubber pathways to improve access across the site, helping more children and families enjoy the space together.

The swing allows wheelchair users to access the equipment independently and can be opened using a RADAR key.

Barnham and Eastergate Parish Council contributed £7,880 of their Neighbourhood CIL funding towards the creation of the Murrell's Field Village Garden. The project has enhanced the area, creating an attractive and welcoming community space that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

The garden features a 78-foot-long raised planting bed which helps separate pedestrians from vehicles, improving both the appearance and functionality of the space. 

The planting scheme includes thirty shrubs, complemented by a striking “wave” of purple and golden-yellow crocuses, alongside smaller shrubs and stonecrop, creating year-round colour and interest.

The Bognor Regis seafront has seen a positive improvement with the replacement of its public showers, funded through a £2,437.73 contribution of Bognor Regis Town Council's Neighbourhood CIL funds. This investment has enhanced the facilities available to residents and visitors, ensuring the seafront remains a welcoming and practical destination.

The new showers provide a cleaner, more reliable service for beachgoers, supporting tourism and encouraging outdoor recreation. By upgrading these facilities, the project improves the overall visitor experience and helps maintain the seafront as a vibrant and attractive space for the community.

Felpham Parish Council contributed £10,000 of their Neighbourhood CIL funds towards the renewal of the King George V Play Area, working in partnership with ADC to deliver improved play facilities for local children and families.

The project introduced a wide range of new equipment designed to provide inclusive, engaging and challenging play opportunities for children of different ages. 

The improvements include:

• a castle-themed climbing unit
• wheelchair-accessible roundabout
• zip wire
• swings
• a timber trim trail
• a dedicated toddler area

A key aim of the project was to enhance accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring the play area can be enjoyed by children of all abilities. The addition of sensory play features and accessible equipment helps create a welcoming environment that supports a broader range of play experiences.

The renewed play area has become a valuable community asset, providing modern and exciting facilities that encourage outdoor activity, social interaction and healthy lifestyles for local families.

Ferring Parish Council invested £6,107.98 of their Neighbourhood CIL funding to refurbish the much‑loved Blue Boat feature and surrounding seating area on Ferring Beach. The improvements have created a brighter, more attractive space that celebrates the character of the seafront and offers a welcoming spot for people to pause and enjoy the coastal surroundings. This simple yet effective enhancement not only freshens the visual appeal of the area but also provides a more inviting place for residents and visitors to relax, supporting community wellbeing and enriching the overall beachside experience.

The Ferring Village Green play area has recently undergone significant enhancements, supported by a £30,000 contribution from CIL funding. These improvements have focused on making the play area more accessible and upgrading the equipment available, ensuring that children of all ages and abilities can enjoy the space.

These upgrades not only enhance the quality of play but also contribute to the overall wellbeing of residents. A modern, safe, and engaging play area encourages outdoor activity, strengthens community ties, and provides a valuable space for recreation. The investment demonstrates how CIL funding can deliver tangible benefits, support local infrastructure and enrich the lives of residents.

Aldingbourne Parish Council invested £8,943 of their Neighbourhood CIL funding in new village gateway signs at key entrances to the parish. The signs create a welcoming arrival point for residents and visitors, helping to establish a stronger sense of place and identity for the local community.

The project has enhanced the appearance of the village boundaries, providing attractive and clearly recognisable entrances to Aldingbourne, Woodgate, Westergate and Lidsey. 

Aldingbourne Parish Council has invested £21,659 of their Neighbourhood CIL funds to enhance the local playground and its surrounding environment, creating a space that can be enjoyed all year round.

The improvements include:

• new play equipment and repairs to current - offering fun and engaging activities for children of all ages. 
• bark pits - providing a safer and more comfortable play surface. 
• new benches for the playground and throughout the parish - giving families and visitors a place to relax and enjoy the area.

These upgrades have made the playground more appealing, accessible, and welcoming for the community, ensuring that local families can make the most of the facilities throughout the year.
