Healthcare permits

Healthcare permits are available to members of clinical, health and social care professions who need to park within the controlled parking zone (CPZ) for the purpose of home visits to patients as part of their employment.

Where healthcare permits can be used

Permits are valid for a maximum of two hours in the following bays:

  • permit holders only
  • shared use

They are not valid for use in taxi, loading and unloading bays, on yellow lines or outside healthcare premises.

The permit does not guarantee a space or that one will be available.

Displaying the permit

Paper permits holders:

Paper permits must be clearly displayed in the windscreen of the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in a parking ticket (Penalty Charge Notice) being issued.

Virtual permit holders:

Nothing is required to be displayed when parking in the Controlled Parking Zone within the Arun district area. If you have a virtual healthcare permit and wish to use it in Controlled Parking Zones outside the district but within the county, please use the paper permit which has been posted to you.

  • 12 months £25

How to apply for a healthcare permit

To apply for a healthcare permit, you’ll need:

  • proof from your employer that you make healthcare visits
  • a debit or credit card to make payment

Apply for a healthcare permit

Change of vehicle, lost or stolen permits

A charge of £5 applies for a replacement permit (if you have changed your vehicle) or if the permit’s been lost or stolen. Please phone 01903 737655 to order your replacement permit and make payment. A new paper permit will be sent to you and if applicable your virtual permit will be updated.

Renewal

If you have a current paper permit which is expiring, you will need to submit a new healthcare permit application on Mipermit using the link above. You will need to submit documentation for your proof of employment.

For virtual permits, Mipermit will send you a reminder email when your permit is due to expire. Please follow the instructions in the email to renew the permit.

Surrender of a permit

If you wish to surrender the permit before it expires, a refund is made for every full calendar month remaining on the permit.

For a paper permit, on receipt of the returned permit or a photograph of the permit torn in four, a refund is made to the purchaser. The minimum refund is £10.

For a virtual permit please log into your Mipermit account and surrender your permit online.

Carer permits

Carer’s permits are available for residents who live within the controlled parking zone (CPZ) and who require a carer to park close to the property to carry out their duties. A carer’s permit is not valid for use by paid care providers or healthcare professionals. Please ensure your carer’s registration number is entered onto the permit. 

The permits are valid for use only in ‘Permit Holder only’ bays in the controlled parking zone (CPZ)

Where Carer permits can be used

Permits are valid for the duration of carrying out your carer duties in the following bays:

  • permit holders only

They are not valid for use in pay & display bays, taxi, loading and unloading bays, on yellow lines.

The permit does not guarantee a space or that one will be available.

Charges

  • 12 months £22

  • proof you live within the Controlled Parking Zone
  • proof you are in receipt of attendance allowance or higher rate care allowance.
  • a debit or credit card to make payment
