Landlord Accreditation Scheme

We run a district-wide Landlord Accreditation Scheme in partnership with Chichester District Council.

Benefits of joining the scheme

As an accredited landlord you will be recognised as having excellent standards and of managing properties that are safe, secure and a great place to live.

Accreditation standards

The scheme is free to join and open to all private landlords within the Chichester and Arun districts. Properties can be single household or multi-person.

Accreditation is awarded to those reaching a set of standards relating to the management and physical condition of the property.

The standards take account of:

  • gas, electrical and fire safety
  • provision of amenities: kitchens, bathrooms, and WCs
  • room size
  • energy efficiency
  • property condition and decoration (external and internal)
  • waste disposal
  • security
  • property management

If you accredit one rental property into the scheme, we require that all your other rental properties within the 2 districts are accredited.  

Accreditation normally lasts for 5 years.

You will also need to send in the right

supporting evidence for your application

You’ll need to provide:

  •  a valid and current landlord’s gas safety record (where there is a gas supply)
  • a current Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) that is free of all Code 1, Code 2 and FI items
  • a current Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with a minimum rating of D (this is required for the scheme even if you are not legally required to have one for the property)
  • a sketch or plan of the layout of the property showing the location and sizes of rooms and fire safety items
  • a Portable Appliance Test (PAT) Report less than five years old for all appliances over one year old (any items less than one year old do not require PAT testing but a copy of the purchase receipt will be required instead)
  • fire alarm and emergency lighting inspection certificate (where applicable)
  • a fire risk assessment if the property is an HMO Additional documentation or certificates may be required depending upon the property or its occupancy status and licensable HMOs will also still need licensing
