Earth day – 22 April 2025
As we celebrate Earth Day today, Arun District Council reaffirms its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Our Climate Action and Sustainability Work Plan outlines the steps we are taking to reduce emissions and enhance biodiversity across the district. From increasing solar PV (photovoltaic) installations on council buildings to expanding grassland and wildflower meadows and planting trees across the district in accordance with our Tree Planting Strategy, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable and thriving environment for all.
Here are some actions you can take to help reduce your carbon footprint:
- insulate your home: Improve energy efficiency and reduce heating costs
- plant trees and create green spaces - enhance local biodiversity and sequester carbon (this refers to the process of capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, typically in plants, soils, or geological formations, thereby reducing its concentration and mitigating climate change)
- reduce, reuse, and recycle - minimise waste and lower emissions
- choose sustainable transportation -walk, cycle, or use public transport to reduce vehicle emissions
Join us in our efforts to combat climate change and protect our natural habitats. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
