Housing fraud – protecting public funds
Here at Arun, we have a dedicated housing Fraud Investigation Officer on our Enforcement Team, dedicated to investigating where housing fraud might be happening, protecting public funds and ensuring our homes are allocated to those in need.
Housing fraud undermines trust, misuses public funds, and it delays access to housing for people in genuine need. This year we have achieved some great results.
Fraud Investigation and Enforcement has been pivotal in making this a success. The key achievements include:
- 15 properties recovered and returned to our housing stock
- 20 other frauds proven (12 mutual exchange refusals, six succession refusals)
Together, this equates to a staggering £1.5M of fraud being prevented.
As part of our ongoing drive to strengthen fraud prevention and enforcement, our teams will continue to focus on this area.
