This week, Mr Albert Brazil was fined £12,000 at Brighton Magistrates' Court for failing to comply with a Temporary Stop Notice served on 9 August 2024 at land off Highground Lane, Barnham. The fine must be paid within three months.

The original notice was issued to stop unauthorised work, including importing waste materials, creating hardstanding and tracks and installing structures without permission. These activities posed a flood risk and harmed local amenity and the environment, breaching Arun Local Plan policies.

We will prosecute where necessary to protect our communities and natural spaces. You can report a breach of planning regulations here www.arun.gov.uk/planning-compliance
