Why work for Arun?

Great benefits!

Annual leave

Holidays! Join us and you will receive a minimum of 23 days off each year– after 5 years service this increases to 27 days (minimum). The amount of leave you receive depends on the grade of the job and the number of years you have worked with us. The maximum ‘annual leave’ amount that can be received is 32 days. In addition to the above, you will also receive bank holidays.

More time off work?! - Flexible working scheme

As well as your annual leave, a large number of our roles will allow you to work flexibly, meaning you can bank any extra hours/minutes you work and use these to take up to 12 extra days off work per year, or leave work early/come in late (subject to operational needs).

Employee Assistance Programme

We offer all employees access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). That means you get a free and confidential 24 hour helpline to support you through any of life’s issues or problems and this service is extended to your close fmaily. We receive great feedback from our employees on the help they have received from our EAP.

Pension

Take care of your future. Join Arun and become a member of the LGPS (Local Government Pension Scheme). You can find more details on this excellent contributary pension scheme  here: https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/about-the-council/pensions/local-government-pension-scheme-lgps/

As an Arun employee who is a member of the LGPS your chosen nominee(s) would be eligible for a death in service payment of 3x your pensionable pay.

Travel

If you need a car to do your job then you can apply for a car loan.

Who likes to ride a bike? A little fresh air in the morning really sets you up for the day! You can buy a bike and accessories (up to £1,100) to ride to work and we will take the money directly from your salary each month. On average this will save you about 30% as we take the money out before tax and national insurance is deducted. We also offer an interest free cycle loan of up to £500.

If that isn’t for you then we have pool bikes which you can book out for free – we have helmets for you to use too!

Training & Development

We are always looking to support and develop our employees to help them be the best they can at work and fulfil their potential. Training interventions offered include eLearning, training courses on site and off site supporting management development, soft skills and practical workshops relating to specific departmental/individual needs, CPD, and sponsorship for role relevant professional qualifications.

On average over the last few years we have run between 30-40 courses on-site.

Health & Wellbeing

In addition to our fantastic gym membership and cycle schemes you can get a free health check with our very own Wellbeing Team, free eye tests, money towards your work glasses and an option to pay into a Simplyhealth Care plan. We also provide annual flu immunisation vouchers for free.

Dress Down days

We hold monthly charity dress down days which support various worthwhile causes.

Long Service Awards

We recognise colleagues for their commitment by rewarding them with Long Service Awards.

Flexible Working

We encourage our employees to achieve an optimal work/life balance. Many of our roles can be worked flexible and arrangements we offer range from working at home, changing regular hours and flexi-time.

Anything else?
  • Free bean to cup coffee from a local coffee roastery – it’s good!
  • Free on-street parking at the Civic Centre in Littlehampton

The benefits mentioned above apply to employees of Arun District Council only and are not available to any person undertaking work for Arun District Council on another basis (for example a consultant or an agency worker). They are also subject to change and (with the exception of annual leave entitlement) do not form part of an employees contract of employment. Annual leave is calculated on a pro-rata basis and the amounts given as examples are based on an employee working a standard 37 hour week work pattern. Terms and conditions apply and more detail can be obtained upon commencing employment.
