DBS checks

If you are a new driver, we must be able to see that you have applied for an enhanced DBS with Taxi Plus when we receive your new driver application, otherwise it will be rejected.

We use TaxiPlus for our DBS certificates. After you have paid you should get a registration email which can take up to 3 hours to come through. If it has not come through then check your spam/junk box or contact TaxiPlus on 01254 355679.

After you have received your DBS certificate you can subscribe to the DBS update service.

If you do not subscribe to the DBS update service then you’ll need to get a new DBS check through TaxiPlus every 6 months.

The DBS update Service

This is an online subscription that lets you keep your DBS certificates up to date. It allows us to check your certificate online with your consent.

After you register, you will not need to make a new application for an enhanced disclosure certificate as part of the renewal application unless you cancel the subscription.

The current annual subscription cost is £13.

If you change your payment card after signing up, you need to let them know. If they cannot take a payment from the card they have stored, your update will not be renewed and you will have to apply for a new DBS.

To register you’ll need to either:

  • provide the DBS update service with your application reference number from your DBS form and apply within 28 days of the date of your application
  • provide the DBS update service with your DBS certificate number and apply within 30 days of the date of your certificate

The subscription lasts for one year from the ‘date of issue’ displayed on your DBS certificate. If you have not opted to automatically renew, you’ll need to sign into your account and make a payment within 30 days before your subscription ends.

You’ll receive an email reminder 30 days before the end date of your subscription. The email is sent from donotreply@dbs.gov.uk

If you have not renewed 14 days before the expiry date, you’ll receive a reminder letter from the DBS update service. Your subscription must be renewed by the day before the subscription expiry date.

You cannot renew on the expiry date as your account is closed.

If you do not renew your DBS through the update service then we will require you make a new DBS check application.
