Local by-elections – postal date changes

We let you know recently that the timetable has begun for the by-elections for the district council - Barnham ward vacancy as well as the West Sussex County Council - Felpham ward vacancy. This follows the death of Councillor John Charles who held both seats.

The by-election will take place on 8 September 2022, but due to the planned Royal Mail postal strikes we have adjusted our timetable a little to minimise any disruption to the postal voting process.

Electors with a postal vote already in place will receive their ballot paper packs around 22 August. There is still time to apply to vote by post if you don’t already– the deadline for us to receive new applications (or changes to existing postal voting arrangements) is 5pm on Tuesday 23 August.

Ballot paper packs for these new postal voters will be sent out on Wednesday 24 August. We are advising electors to send their completed packs back to us as soon as possible to avoid any delays which may be caused by potential disruption. Electors may prefer to drop their completed packs through the letter box at the Arun Civic Centre or Bognor Regis Town Hall, and they can do this until 10pm on polling day.

The Notices of Election have been published and can be viewed on the Arun District Council Website. All information on the district council by-election can be found at https://www.arun.gov.uk/arun-district-council-elections, and for the county council by-election at https://www.arun.gov.uk/west-sussex-county-council-elections

You can find out who will be standing for election in the Statements of Persons Nominated (LINK). The statements will also be displayed at the Arun Civic Centre, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis Town Hall.

If you live in these areas and are registered to vote you will receive a poll card very soon. If you aren’t already registered to vote, details of how to do this can be found on the Arun District Council Website at Register to vote | Arun District CouncilYour application must be received by Arun District Council’s electoral registration office by Monday 22 August.
