Arun Building Control is going digital

Arun District Council Building Control will offer customers a fully electronic service from the New Year.

Customers will benefit through being able to submit online applications instantly and make significant savings by not having to pay for printing costs.

For the last few months, Arun Building Control has been trialling taking laptops to site inspections and encouraging applications to be stored electronically and from Friday, 1 January, they will provide a fully electronic service.

Councillor Ricky Bower, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure, said: “I am impressed by the innovative approach taken by Arun Building Control to customer service.

“The new technology will help Arun Building Control to continue keeping costs low – Arun’s Fees and Charges have remained largely at the same level since April 2012.”

The laptops mean surveyors will respond to customers’ needs either in the office or on site, as they will have the information to hand electronically which results in the digital technology freeing up time.

Jim Henn, Arun Building Control Manager, said: “Many customers still like to work with paper documents and although paper applications can still be submitted, it may take us a little longer to validate and progress non-electronic versions. I would suggest customers consider converting their paper plans to a PDF format.”
