Arun Building Control to work for the University of Chichester at the new multi-million pound Bognor Regis campus development

In continuing a successful Building Control partnership, Arun District Council has been asked by the University of Chichester to provide support for the forthcoming construction of an £18million Engineering and Digital Technology Park at the University’s Bognor Regis Campus.

Building Control acts as a trouble shooter by helping to iron out any Regulation issues in the designs as well as being available on site to inspect the construction works as these are progressed. All of this helps the project to run smoothly.

Jim Henn, Arun District Council’s Building Control Manager, said: “I am delighted Arun Building Control is assisting with the delivery of such a high profile and large scale project for both the University of Chichester and of course, Bognor Regis.

“Our surveyors will provide valuable advice when needed, which of course will help this exciting development to take shape.”

The new Engineering and Digital Technology Park will include an Institute for Sustainable Enterprise and a Centre for Digital Technology, located in a signature new building with a prominent entrance. In addition, supporting student accommodation is also planned providing up to 300 student rooms.

The park will mean the University of Chichester will deliver 500 new science, technology and engineering undergraduate and postgraduate student places per annum in Bognor Regis by 2020, which will generate an additional £5million per annum to the local economy.

The architects Stride Treglown said: “We are delighted to be a part of the Engineering and Digital Technology Park project for the University of Chichester.

“From the outset it was understood that the building was to be a landmark to announce the presence of the university to the town and to mark the beginning of a change for the university and Bognor Regis.

“The project is a substantial investment for the university and will make a significant contribution to the local area.”

The Council is currently considering plans for the regeneration of the Regis Centre and Hothamton Car Park sites in Bognor Regis, which includes a proposal for student flats to be built on the Hothamton Car Park site.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “Once complete the Engineering and Digital Technology Park will really boost the local economy as well as attract the brightest and best students to study in Bognor Regis.

“It is pleasing to hear that Arun Building Control have played a part in ensuring the construction of the park is carried out smoothly.”

Mr David Wratten, Property Development Manager at University of Chichester, said: “The Technology Park will help us to deliver our vision of making our region a place where businesses large or small can thrive, create jobs for the town, and where people can access the very best education and training opportunities.

“The investment will also enable the University to radically extend its academic portfolio to meet national and local government agendas for economic growth by increasing opportunities for new businesses and jobs at regional level.

“We are very pleased that we can continue our collaborative and productive partnership with Arun District Building Control.”
