Arun Leisure Centre shows off new physique! - 24th Feb

Fitness fanatics had the chance to test the new state-of-the-art gym equipment at the new fitness suite at the Arun Leisure Centre last weekend.

The leisure centre in Felpham opened its doors on Sunday [Feb 22 2015] to reveal the results of a £900,000 makeover, which included doubling the size of the gym and installing state of the art TechnoGym fitness equipment.

Brand new air conditioning and air handling units have also been installed to provide the perfect conditions for a work out. Both gym changing rooms have been refreshed and updated.

In addition to an expanded gym, a second phase of the renovation will deliver an expansion of the exercise studio on the first floor into the adjoining squash court to create a larger multipurpose studio. The bottom half of the converted squash court will become a self-contained dedicated cycling studio. This work is due to be completed in March 2015.

Arun District Council funded the remodelling of the building, working in partnership with Inspire Leisure and West Sussex County Council.

Inspire Leisure has made significant improvements to the public areas inside the building including the reception and café as well as new ‘Aqua bikes’ and gymnastics equipment totalling £80,000.

Councillor Paul Dendle, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Amenities at Arun District Council, said: “Arun District Council is delighted to have been involved in funding and delivering such a great project, which has run very smoothly thanks to a good working relationship between all the partners involved.

“The new equipment is fantastic and easy to use, whether you’re an experienced gym-goer or someone who is seeking to get fit, so come and have a try!”

At the beginning of last year, Arun Leisure Centre saw the completion and opening of the 3G artificial pitch at the centre at a cost of £360,000 with Arun District Council funding of £210,000 towards the project and Sport England providing a contribution of £150,000 from their Inspired Facilities Fund.
