Arundel Recovery Co-ordinating Group meet

Arundel River Wall - Statement

A second multi-agency meeting of the Arundel Recovery Co-ordinating Group took place between officers from Arun District Council, a representative of the residents of River Road, Arundel District and Town Councillors, Angmering Park Estates, the Environment Agency, West Sussex County Council (including Fire and Rescue) and the Littlehampton Harbour Master on Friday 22 January.

The group is continuing to work closely together to limit the immediate risk, whilst looking ahead to find appropriate long-term solutions. The Environment Agency has put in place a temporary flood defence in preparation for the next high tide on 27 January and provided more sandbags to the properties at risk. The EA is continuing to work with the Harbour Master to monitor tides and assess flood risks to the properties in River Road and the wider community.

Arun District Council’s Liaison Officer is working closely with all involved to assist residents.

Cllr James Stewart, Mayor of Arundel said “This situation is of course causing concern and distress to the residents of the properties affected and it is fantastic to see, in action, the proactive steps being taken by all partners to ensure that progress is being made to minimise risk to these properties and the wider community.”

Arun District Councillor and Ward member for Arundel and Walburton, Cllr Robert Wheal has attended both meetings and said “The situation is being monitored daily and risk assessments are being made. I am confident that all agencies are working together and contingency plans are in place.”
