Council confirms plans for parking

Council confirms plans for parking Arun District Council is going to extend town centre disc parking from two hours to three hours in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Town Centre shopping car-parks from 1 August through to Christmas 2020. The existing discs will be used, and the time set as usual, but the free period will be three hours rather than two hours.

We hope that this will encourage users to spend longer in the town centre, shopping and possibly to take in a meal or coffee, especially using the Chancellor’s initiative of half price meals Monday-Wednesday during this August.

Dr James Walsh, Leader of the Council said: “Town centre retail is on a knife edge in both Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, and we want to do as much as possible to encourage shoppers, cafe users and others to start using our town centres again. We are determined to do everything possible to assist our small business community to thrive again.”

Cllr Mrs Samantha Staniforth, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said: “Coupled with the Chancellor’s scheme for half-price meals at participating businesses on Monday- Wednesday during August, we think that this will be a welcome boost to town centre retail, cafés and restaurants. We hope it will encourage shoppers to stay longer to complete their banking, shopping and cafe experiences.”

Discs for the free parking schemes are available from all the usual outlets in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, and can be used in the following car parks: Hothamton, Fitzleet and Lyon Street in Bognor Regis, and St Martins, Anchor springs, Manor House in Littlehampton.
