Council’s collaboration with designers paves the way for a better Littlehampton

Arun District Council is delighted to announce the appointment of LDA Design to help deliver various projects which aim to enhance Littlehampton.

The Council will work on a number of schemes to improve paving and public realm, which will make it easier for tourists and residents to find their way around the coastal town’s centre and seafront.

LDA Design will work with the Council by holding focus groups to find out what people would like Arun to do to make Littlehampton town centre even more appealing.

Once completed, LDA Design will put together the information to produce plans so that the Council can then carry out public consultation.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “LDA Design have a fantastic track record of completing innovative design projects not only in the UK but around the world, so Arun is delighted to work with a company with such great credentials.

“Once complete the projects will help smarten up Littlehampton town centre and seafront, which will encourage tourists to visit and help Arun residents feel even more proud of this vibrant coastal town.”

Sophie Thompson, Director at LDA Design, said: “It’s great to be partnering with Arun District Council again. Following our work on the Arun East Bank flood defence, we understand what makes Littlehampton special and we want to create an exciting place that celebrates Littlehampton’s distinctive heritage including shopping streets and lanes that will entice shoppers and attractive public spaces which will become places for socialising and eating out.

“The local community will be consulted to ensure they have a say in how the plans develop and the town’s relationship to the sea will be a central element to the plans.”

The plans are currently due to be discussed at Littlehampton Regeneration Sub Committee on Thursday, 16 June, with recommendations being considered by Full Council on Wednesday, 20 July.
