Arun’s beaches have again won top honours from Keep Britain Tidy.

Littlehampton’s Coastguards [East] Beach has been named as a winner of both the coveted 2015 Blue Flag Award and Seaside Award.

Over in Bognor Regis, the East Beach has again secured the Seaside Award.

The accolades reward the fantastic facilities, cleanliness and, in the case of the Blue Flag awards, meeting the highest international standard of water quality.

Arun District Council’s outgoing Chairman, Councillor Dougal Maconachie, praised the hard work of everyone involved in maintaining both beaches to such a high standard.

He added: “This is great news for Arun and is a sign of our commitment to keeping our beaches clean and safe for both tourists and locals alike.

“We would also like to thank all the partners, volunteers and community groups who do a fantastic job to help keep our beaches tidy. It’s a proud day for all of us.”

Only 12 beaches in the South-East achieved Blue Flag status, while just 13 were given the Seaside Award.

Pupils from River Beach Primary School gathered on Littlehampton seafront to help Cllr Dougal Maconachie, outgoing Mayor of Littlehampton, Jill Long, and Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Amenities, Councillor Paul Dendle to raise the flags.

They were joined by Beach and River Ward Members, along with members of the Council’s Foreshores Team.

Along the coast in Bognor Regis, Year 3 students from the Edward Bryant Academy joined Cllr Dougal Maconachie, Cllr Paul Dendle, and Marine and Hotham Ward Members, along with Arun’s Foreshores staff in celebrating Bognor Regis’ East Beach being awarded the Seaside Award.
