Arun District Council Building Control has achieved ISO 9001 accreditation.

This accreditation provides our customers with the assurance that our various Building Control processes are sound and consistently met.

We are proud that hard work and diligence has been acknowledge and that our Quality Policy is at the heart of the service we offer:

‘Arun Building Control is committed to meeting customer agreements, legal obligations and requirements defined in the LABC ISO 9001 2015 for working in a planned, consistent and documented manner.’

Simply speaking, this means that we can now demonstrate - by way of an internationally recognised standard - that Customers who choose to use Arun’s Building Control Service can be assured that when we ‘say what we do’, we will ‘do what we say’.

This is so important because residents and businesses who wish to carry out building work to their properties can choose whether to instruct Arun District Council or an alternative provider for their Building Control needs. Of course, since it a legal requirement for all local authorities to provide a Building Control service then it is important that this service is delivered in the best possible manner. Achieving this accreditation is evidence that we are providing and delivering a quality service.

Of course, we’re not resting on our laurels and recently conducted a survey of our ‘top 100’ design customers in an aim to further improve our service. We want to understand what aspects and elements of our work our customers are happy with and if there are areas of our work that we need to improve. Since the survey closed, we have been examining and analysing the responses and a report and action plan for any potential changes will follow, so watch this space!

Cabinet Member for Technical Services, Cllr Matt Stanley said, “I am delighted that the Council’s Building Control service has achieved this valued accreditation. It is clear from their many happy customers that they are providing a quality service but to have official acknowledgement of that is proof and very reassuring for residents of the District.”
