New design for Littlehampton Skate Park

Maverick industries artist interpretation of the new skate park Plans have been submitted to Arun District Council for the skate park upgrade at Sea Road, Littlehampton.

The new concrete skate park has been designed by Maverick Industries Ltd which specialises in the design of spray concrete skate parks.

The design was finalised following several consultation workshops to obtain the opinions of local skate park users. It is proposed that it will be located to the west of the current skate park and the existing steel ramps will be refurbished as part of the upgrade.

A new parkour training facility is also planned for the site.

The project will be jointly funded by Arun District Council and Littlehampton Town Council. In addition, the councils have made a successful bid to Sport England for £50,000 towards the project.

Funding will be provided on condition that floodlighting is installed so that the hours of use can be extended during the winter months. Littlehampton Town Council will provide the additional funding to install the floodlights.

Councillor Dan Purchese, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “Working with Maverick and Littlehampton Town Council, we have carried out consultation with skate park users to finalise the skate park design. We are keen to provide a modern and exciting skate park for local users, and those from further afield, to enjoy for years to come.

Councillor Dr James Walsh, Chair of Littlehampton Town Council’s Policy & Finance Committee, said: “Young people in Littlehampton have told us that having a more up-to-date and challenging skate park is what is needed, and we now wish to encourage them in the design of what will be a really good new facility, very near to Littlehampton Wave. This is another great new attraction for the town, with young people at its heart.”

The new scheme is subject to planning consent and the full planning application can be viewed on the Arun District Council planning website https://www.arun.gov.uk/planning under reference LU/136/19/PL.
