Youngsters will be able to let off steam on a range of new equipment when work to revamp a popular recreation ground is completed.

In July 2020, the Council carried out public consultation to discover the type of improvements that local people would like to see at Worthing Road Recreation Ground in Littlehampton.

The survey showed demand for better play equipment for a wider range of age groups - especially juniors – with an obstacle course, zip wire and climbing frame with slide top of the wishlist.

Improvements were also requested to the wider open space including seating, wildflower planting, tree planting and a new pathway from Northway Road.

Using this feedback, the Council requested designs from play companies, and Kompan Ltd was chosen to carry out the improvements. Their design features an obstacle course, an exciting double zip wire and equipment for a wide range of ages, including juniors.

The construction work to install the play equipment and pathway is anticipated to start in early March 2021.

Improvements to the wider open space, including the tree planting, wildflowers and seating, are set to take place later in the year.

Councillor Samantha-Jayne Staniforth, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said: “I am so glad we have been able to provide the residents with the things they asked for in the consultation. As we are all enjoying and appreciating our outdoor spaces that little bit more, this refurbishment will I’m sure be very welcomed by children and parents alike.

“As a keen environmentalist, I am also very pleased to see we are including trees and wildflowers, which is critical to our biodiversity and very in-line with the work we are doing around the climate crisis.”
