New Portuguese Street Market in Littlehampton

A flavour of Portugal is coming to Littlehampton with a Portuguese Street Market arriving in the town very soon.

Delicious food including pastries, groceries, wines and cheeses as well as crafts, will be available for purchase at the Portuguese Street Market.

John Edjvet, Littlehampton Town Centre Regeneration Officer at Arun District Council, said: “I am pleased to welcome the Portuguese Street Market to Littlehampton.

“It will be overseen by a very experienced organiser in Patrícia Marcelino who runs a very successful market in London.

“This market builds on the various flourishing town centre events that have boosted the number of visitors to the heart of Littlehampton.

“Littlehampton is a great venue for this market because of the town’s maritime heritage and substantial Portuguese population.”

Some of the stalls will also be available at the Christmas Lights switch on event in Littlehampton on Friday, 25 November.

The first-ever market takes place on Saturday, 26 November from 10am to 4pm. Arun District Councillor and Town Mayor of Littlehampton, Councillor Ian Buckland, will be in attendance.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “The Portuguese Street Market will be a unique experience for Littlehampton with a wide range of quality produce and lively entertainment available. This promises to be a lovely day for everyone.

“Artisan markets offer unique high quality produce and this market will attract tourists and residents alike to shop and spend time in the town centre. I am delighted Arun District Council is working in partnership with Littlehampton Town Council to bring this fantastic new market to the centre of the town.”

Market organiser Patrícia Marcelino said: “It’s the very first Portuguese Street Market we’re overseeing outside London and we’re honoured that it will take place in Littlehampton where there is a large Portuguese community.

“Portuguese music will also feature at this market, so bring your family and friends and visit this sample of Portugal in the heart of England’s south coast.

“We are very pleased to bring to you some delicious tastes of Portugal, together with souvenirs”.
