Children have risen to the District Council’s challenge of designing postcards depicting what they love most about the area of the Arun District they live in.

The task was set when the children visited Arun District Council’s Civic Centre in November 2015 for National Takeover Day, an event where young people learn about how the Council works.

The postcards illustrate Arundel Castle, the Cathedral, the River Arun, beach huts on Littlehampton foreshore, Littlehampton Pier, and the East Beach Café and are available to view on the Sussex by the Sea website and Facebook page and to view at the Visitor Centre at Look and Sea and the Arun Civic Centre reception in Littlehampton. They will be available to see at other locations soon.

Councillor Paul Dendle, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Amenities, said: “I am tremendously impressed with the artistic talent these young Arun residents have demonstrated.

“They have done a fantastic job highlighting some of the best places to visit in both Arundel and Littlehampton.

“I am sure their artwork will encourage people to visit the Arun District’s many wonderful tourist attractions.  If after viewing their artwork you are still looking for inspiration of where to visit in the District I would recommend visiting the Sussex by the Sea website or pick up a pocket visitor guide from local Visitor Information Points in Arundel, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton for handy tips on what to see and do.”

The postcards were designed by Jasmine, Rhiannon and William from St Philip’s Catholic Primary School in Arundel and Brianna, Daniella, Izzy, Nikita, Jayden, Feodor and Miguel from River Beach Primary School in Littlehampton.

Sue Bingham, Lead Learner with responsibility for Information Communication Technology at River Beach Primary School, said: “Children at our school are enthusiastic about their coastal location.

“They study it as part of their curriculum in many different ways: from a geographical perspective; inspiration for art and writing; learning about our community; as well as a backdrop for historical re-enactments. Thank you Arun for giving us another opportunity to celebrate what our locality offers.”

Children in Bognor Regis have an opportunity to use their artistic talents on Monday, 29 August. Details of ‘Young at Art,’ an exciting new event created by Bognor Regis Town Centre Manager Toyubur Rahman and Bognor Can Community artists are featured on the what's on page and on the Sussex by the Sea Facebook page. Sign up before Friday, 19 August to take part in this exciting event.
