Play area upgrades set to begin

rocking horse Four play areas in the district are to be refurbished using fun designs shaped by our residents.

Improvement work is planned for play areas at Larksfield in Middleton-on-Sea, Linden Rec in Littlehampton, Longbrook in Felpham and Sproule Close in Ford.

Arun District Council had a good response to consultation surveys held last year and took suggestions from the 137 replies to play companies and asked for them to come up with designs.

Wicksteed Ltd won the tender to carry out the refurbishment works at Larksfield and Linden. Kompan Ltd were selected to carry out the refurbishment works at Longbrook and Sproule Close.

Wicksteed’s design for Larksfield includes a new and improved climbing unit, natural play items and a zip wire. The design for Linden Rec includes a better range of equipment for different ages and abilities; including climbing units, a basket swing and exercise equipment. The surfacing will also make it more accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Kompan’s pirate theme design for Longbrook includes a pirate ship climbing unit, a four-person seesaw and improvements to the surfacing to improve accessibility. The design for Sproule Close includes climbing units for both juniors and toddlers and a basket swing.

Councillor Dan Purchese, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We received a good level of response from the public with some great suggestions about how these play areas could be enhanced.

“Therefore, we are really pleased that work is due to start on improving these four play areas at key local sites so that we can offer better play facilities for young people across the district.”

Weather permitting, it is anticipated that the improvement work will be carried out early this year.
