Seafront set for stylish makeover

Arun District Councillors will soon be deciding upon exciting proposals to make the seafront in Bognor Regis an even better place to visit.

The already popular seafront is set to be an even bigger hit with families and visitors as a range of improvements are delivered.

The plans will include new public toilets, concessions and a new free play area for younger children, which will nicely complement the hugely successful Beach on the Beach sand play area that has recently been made even larger and has opened for a second successive summer.

The overall offer is designed to appeal to all ages and encourage people to visit the seafront more often and stay longer.

Arun District Council intends to replace the current dilapidated underground public conveniences with new above-ground fully accessible toilets. Better seafront toilets have been top of the public’s wish list in various consultations, so this will be a priority for Arun.

Visitors and residents looking for something to eat, drink or a souvenir will also be in luck. New concession buildings are part of the plans which will offer a greater range and choice that will meet modern consumer and visitor expectations.

There will be public realm designs commissioned by the Council to enhance paving, seating, planting and lighting, making sure the designs are attractive and consistent.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “These are really exciting times for Bognor Regis. Arun has listened to the views of the public. As a result of these longer term plans, the seafront will look even more stunning once this work is complete and will attract residents and tourists of all ages to our fantastic seaside town.

“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t been to Bognor Regis for a while to come and visit to see how the town is going from strength to strength.”

Funding has already been allocated by the Council for the new public toilets, free-to-access play area for younger children and the first of the new style concessions, so work can proceed quickly once the plans are agreed.

The proposals are being considered by the Bognor Regis Regeneration Subcommittee on Wednesday, June 8 2016.
