The Local Housing Allowance (LHA) arrangements apply to those renting from private landlords. They are used to calculate maximum housing benefit entitlement, and are affected by the area the property is in and the size of the household. You can calculate the amount of bedrooms you are entitled to claim for using this bedroom calculator. The allowance is capped at a maximum of 4 bedrooms, regardless of any additional need. If you are under 35, single and live alone, you will be restricted to the shared room rate. This rate also applies if you have your own bedroom in a property but share other rooms, such as the kitchen and bathroom.
